Boris Johnson is planning to host a virtual G7 summit of world leaders within weeks of Joe Biden becoming US president in an attempt to set an ambitious agenda covering climate change, a worldwide vaccination programme, future pandemic preparedness and relations with China.
The UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, is pressing ahead to change the normal G7 summit format into the “D10”. As it stands G7 is composed of 7 nations: the US, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Canada, and the UK.
However, he plans to instead include the ten leading democracies into this summit effectively changing into “D10”. The three nations that would be joining are South Korea, India, and Australia.
Although this has gotten some opposition with some seeing this potential new coalition of democratic nations as taking a stance specifically against China and possibly weakening the power of the EU, “The proposal to expand the G7 into a wider group has met resistance from some European states concerned it will be perceived as an anti-China alliance and a means of diluting the power of EU countries.”
Although Johnson plans to go ahead with this change soon, this idea is nothing new but instead “has been circulating in US thinktanks for nearly a decade.” It’s yet to be seen if such a change will be a permanent or temporary one, but regardless, this could be a change worth keeping our eyes on.
UK plans early G7 virtual meeting and presses ahead with switch to D10
From The Guardian: He is also pressing ahead with plans to convert the face-to-face annual summit of the G7 in June into a D10 of leading democracies. It is due to be the first in-person meeting of world leaders for nearly two years, after the US-hosted G7 was cancelled and the Saudi-hosted G20 meeting moved online last year.
The proposal to expand the G7 into a wider group has met resistance from some European states concerned it will be perceived as an anti-China alliance and a means of diluting the power of EU countries. Concern has been expressed within French and Italian diplomatic circles.
An early virtual meeting of the G7 would provide Biden with a platform to show renewed US commitment to multilateralism.
Johnson secured agreement to turn the UK-hosted G7 summit in June into a D10, an idea that has been circulating in US thinktanks for nearly a decade. As a result, South Korea, India and Australia are to be invited to all sessions of the event, which is due to be attended as usual by the US, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Canada and the UK.
Johnson’s expansion of the G7 is partly motivated by a wish to dovetail with Biden’s interest in promoting democracy as superior to authoritarianism. Biden has long proposed a summit for democracy in the first year of his presidency, and the D10 summit could provide a platform or a way station for a larger event.
The prime minister is also keen to see the D10 combine to form a technological rival to China, and more broadly sees the G7 as a golden opportunity to show UK global leadership post-Brexit.
Johnson, perceived by some Biden staffers as a Trumpian populist who has damaged multilateralism, knows he has work to rehabilitate himself with the new US administration, although the degree of tension has reduced due to the UK leaving the EU without a hard border on the island of Ireland. Prophetic Implications
For some, this news may not hold any real meaning beyond a few of the worlds leaders simply getting together to discuss critical issues. And on a surface level that’s all it really seems to be. However, the bible tells us that during the tribulation, there will be 10 rulers who will have authority over the earth and give their power to the antichrist (Revelation 17:12-13).
We see this first in Daniel 2 in regards to King Nebuchadnezzar’s statue. The statue, with each layer, representing a different world empire. The feet and toes of iron and clay representing the last days’ antichrist empire (with 10 kings represented by the 10 toes) that will be destroyed upon Christ’s return (Daniel 2:31-35, 38-45). I go into this in greater detail here.
Then in Daniel 7, Daniel describes 4 beasts that arise from the sea, each one representing a world empire just as was ascertained from King Nebuchadnezzar’s statue in Daniel 2. This 4th beast – a representation of the Roman empire, and the last day’s revived Roman empire – has 10 horns (Daniel 7:7) being symbolic for 10 kings or rulers (Daniel 7:24).
When we move to Revelation 13:1-2, we see another beast rising from the sea with 10 horns and in Revelation 17:12-14 are told that the 10 horns are a representation of 10 kings or rulers.
The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful. (Revelation 13:12-14)
To bring this all together, what we’re seeing here with this new proposed “D10” peaks my interest due to the prophetic significance it could have in relation to the 10 kings that will be in power throughout the tribulation. Could this be laying the groundwork for the 10 kings written about in the bible that will take their place during the tribulation? Maybe. Could this also fizzle out into nothing? Also possible.
With that being said, I am not saying with certainty that this current group is the fulfillment of the aforementioned passages but I am instead showing you what scripture says concerning the last days and how current events seems to be “catching up”.
Only time will tell as to what further significance the “D10” may have (granted they go through with this change), but I believe it’s something worth paying attention to regardless. Especially as we find ourselves living in a time where many signs heralding the soon coming of the Lord is converging like never before. This should serve to give hope to the believer as we see his return draw near. Maranatha!

I also had the same thoughts as you on the D-10. Have you read about the interpretation of Hypollitus of Rome on this passage? He wrote only 100 years after John wrote Revelation, and he is directly connected to the apostle through Ireneaus and Polycarp. He believed the 10 toes to be so many democracies (10) and in his time there was no democracy to talk about (Rome was an autocratic regime). We’ve never had that in history, but now a good candidate appears for the fulfillment for this passage and is very probable to go forward in order to counter Chinese influence.
