Netanyahu’s New Government Expects to Sign Peace Agreement with Saudi Arabia Within a Year in Effort to Expand Abraham Accords

Presumed incoming prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the United States needs to reaffirm alliances with its traditional partners in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia, adding that a normalization deal between Jerusalem and Riyadh could serve as a “quantum leap” for long-moribund peace talks with the Palestinians.

With Benjamin Netanyahu’s victory in the latest round of Israeli elections early last month, I was expecting that eventually the change in government would lead to events that may be prophetically significant and therefore make this change in government worth paying attention to.

Now, well over a month later and we’re seeing reports that a possible peace agreement with Saudi Arabia may come within a year. This, coming from Israel’s former UN ambassador, Danny Danon. Such a feat, if achieved, would also expand the already existing Abraham Accords which I’ve posted about several times in the past.

“‘Israel’s former United Nations ambassador, now a member of the incoming coalition, said that the new government will expand the Abraham Accords and sign a peace treaty with Saudi Arabia soon. “I expect we’ll see an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia this year…'” (Allisraelnews)

Danon, at the First Annual Abraham Accords Global Leadership Summit in Rome stated that, “The new Israeli government‘s first priority will be to increase signatories to the Abraham Accords…It’s just a matter of time before courageous leaders step out of the shadows and full peace is achieved between all the children of Abraham. I expect we’ll see an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia this year.'”, (Allisraelnews).

The goal of the summit was to “increase peace and tolerance in the spirit of the Abraham Accords,” (Israel365News). What makes this news even more interesting is that Netanyahu himself has also made his intentions clear on achieving this same goal.

In October, in an interview with Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) for his memoir, Bibi: My Story, he was asked about what he believed former US President Donald Trump and himself could’ve accomplished if they would’ve had more time in office, to which he cited the Abraham Accords in his response.

“Q: “Working together with President Trump, you accomplished more, possibly, than any pair of president and prime minister had accomplished for the State of Israel in such a short period. What do you think that you could have accomplished had both your administration and the Trump administration remained in office for a few more years?

A: “…But I think the big prize is peace with Saudi Arabia, which I intend to achieve if I go back into office. And I think there’s a chance I will achieve it, because I think Saudi Arabia and many of the other Arab countries who haven’t yet made peace with us know that I’m absolutely committed to preventing Iran from having nuclear weapons, which is something that they are keenly interested in….The rise of Israeli power facilitated the Abraham Accords, and the continual nurturing of Israeli power will also nurture a broader peace with Saudi Arabia and nearly all of the rest of the Arab world. I intend to bring the Arab-Israeli conflict to a close.”, (JNS)

The Forward similarly reported his stance on the subject early November stating, “Incoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that he believes a normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia is within reach and would effectively end the Arab-Israeli conflict.'”, (Forward).

They later note that Netanyahu stated that making peace with Saudi Arabia would be a “worthy goal”. And now in December, we still see Netanyahu express hope in this goal noting a peace deal with Saudi Arabia would be a “quantum leap”, “I think we can have a new peace initiative that will form a quantum leap for the achievement of both the Arab-Israeli conflict and ultimately, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict…And of course, I’m referring to what could be a truly remarkable historic peace with Saudi Arabia.”, (The Times of Israel).

And now that his government has formed, we’re one step closer to his goal becoming a reality. Only time will tell if their hopes will bear fruit in the timeline Danon specified but regardless, this is still worth paying attention to. Afterall, Netanyahu and his party aren’t the only ones that wish to see the expansion of the Abraham Accords.

To this, the Forward noted that Netanyahu “often spoke about improving relations with Saudi Arabia, and Biden administration officials have said that the U.S. would support the process.”, (Forward). The below articles I’ve written shows the push we’ve been seeing from the US as well from notable individuals attesting to this fact.

We can clearly see that many eyes are on the Accords, so much so that a Summit in Rome was even held for it. So as important as this all is, why should we as believers care about it? As I’ve covered in previous articles regarding the Abraham Accords and detail in my article, What is the Prophetic Significance of the Abraham Accords?, I believe that the Accords may be contributing to the stage setting for the Daniel 9:27 covenant as well as for the conditions needed for the Ezekiel 38-39 invasion.

Could the Abraham Accords be something that will later be strengthened into a more powerful agreement in the future? And regarding its possible significance to Ezekiel 38-39, the Accords are often noted as a means to bring greater peace, security, and prosperity to Israel and the Middle East in general.

Another component to this is that a few nations will protest this invasion. Included is Sheba and Dedan (Ezekiel 38:13), or modern day Saudi Arabia who is currently on friendly terms with Israel. It’s this same Saudi Arabia that Netanyahu hopes to include in the Accords in the relatively “near” future.

For Saudi Arabia to be against an invasion of Israel, they would have to be on good terms which is what we’re seeing developing before our eyes now. In fact some (such as Netanyahu) have stated that if it wasn’t for Saudi Arabia’s approval, there wouldn’t have been an Abraham Accords to being with.

“’It [the Abraham Accords] didn’t happen without Saudi approval because those countries wanted to know what their big neighbor Saudi Arabia thought about it,” he said. “I can assure you, it wasn’t negative.’ He added that as a prelude to the Abraham Accords — which normalized relations between Israel the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan — Saudi Arabia permitted aircraft to fly over its airspace while coming to and leaving Israel. Ultimately, as we see the set up for the future fulfillment of bible prophecies occurring before our eyes concerning events that occur in close proximity to the tribulation, it should tell us that our redemption draws ever so near.
