Japanese Christian Terms: Prophecy

In this post we’ll go over the meaning of the word Prophecy (預言) in Japanese. I also list out extra vocab, example sentences, as well as links to grammar points I use to help deepen your understanding.

Vocabulary:

1. 聖書 (せいしょ) – bible
2. 時々 (ときどき) – sometimes
3. 分かる (わかる) – to understand
4. とても – very
5. 面白い (おもしろい) – interesting

Grammar:

1. ~にくい – difficult to do
2. ~けど – but, however, although
3. ~と思う (おもう) – to think

Example Sentence:

聖書預言は時々分かりにくいけど、とても面白いと思うね。

Bible prophecy is sometimes a bit difficult to understand, but I think it’s interesting.

Example Verses:

“わたしは天使を拝もうとしてその足もとにひれ伏した。すると、天使はわたしにこう言った。「やめよ。わたしは、あなたやイエスの証しを守っているあなたの兄弟たちと共に、仕える者である。神を礼拝せよ。イエスの証しは預言の霊なのだ。」” – ヨハネの黙示録‬ ‭19:10‬

“And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, ‘See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’” – Revelation 19:10
