Japanese Christian Terms: Presence

In this post we’ll go over the word Presence (臨在) in Japanese. I also list out extra vocab, example sentences, as well as links to grammar points I use to help deepen your understanding.

Vocabulary:

1. 時々 (ときどき) – sometimes, occasionally
2. 主様 (しゅさま) – Lord (respectful)
3. 感じる (かんじる) – to feel, to sense, to experience
4. 遠い(とおい) – far, distant
5. いつも – always, all the time
6. 側 (そば) – near, close, beside

Grammar:

1. ~にくい – difficult to do
2. ~ようだ – appears, seems to, looks as if
3. ~によると – according to

Example Sentence:

時々主様の臨在を感じにくい、遠いようです。でも、聖書によると、いつも側にいます!

Sometimes it’s difficult to feel God’s presence, and He seems distant. But according to the bible he’s always near to us!
