The World Health Organization is pushing for an international accord to help prevent and fight future pandemics amid the emergence of a worrying new Omicron COVID-19 variant.
On April 1st, 2021, I wrote an article titled, World Leaders Call For a ‘Global Treaty’ in Wake of Pandemic, which I would encourage you to read before this one. Why? This article is essentially an update to that one. I discussed how 24 world leaders urged in a letter that a global treaty was needed in order to protect the world from future pandemics. 8 months later and the push for some type of “global pandemic treaty” continues on.
As much as this might seem like a “common sense” solution, in my opinion, it wouldn’t hurt to further analyze what this could lead to. Below are highlights from the letter:
And now as an update to this situation, with the advent of the new Omicron variant, there’s a renewed push for such a treaty to be made, “‘The emergence of the highly mutated Omicron variant underlines just how perilous and precarious our situation is,’ Tedros said, calling for a ‘legally binding’ agreement that wasn’t mentioned in a draft text seeking consensus on the way forward. ‘Indeed, Omicron demonstrates just why the world needs a new accord on pandemics,'” (The Times of Israel).
We’re also seeing the US support a draft resolution for this effort, “Amid growing concerns over the new omicron COVID-19 variant, the Biden administration is supporting efforts by the World Health Organization to establish a new international agreement on future pandemic preparedness and response,” (VOA News).
Again, this may all sound nice on the surface, but with continued calls for a global governing framework that’s already occurred since the beginning of the pandemic itself, why is this any different? And who’s to say what this will ultimately look like?
The bible clearly tells us there will be a last day’s “kingdom” that will be global in scope and ruled by one man – the antichrist. So should we be surprised when we see a continual push for globalism? No. In fact, this is what we should be expecting further showing us how close the tribulation period is, and even closer, the rapture of the church.
In shadow of Omicron, WHO chief pushes for global pandemic accord
The Times of Israel: WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Monday that many uncertainties remain about just how transmissible and severe infection by the highly mutated Omicron might be.
Tedros joined leaders including outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera for a long-planned and largely virtual special session of the UN health agency’s member states at the World Health Assembly.
The gathering is aimed at devising a global action plan toward preventing, preparing and responding to future pandemics.
“The emergence of the highly mutated Omicron variant underlines just how perilous and precarious our situation is,” Tedros said, calling for a “legally binding” agreement that wasn’t mentioned in a draft text seeking consensus on the way forward. “Indeed, Omicron demonstrates just why the world needs a new accord on pandemics.”
“Our current system disincentivizes countries from alerting others to threats that will inevitably land on their shores,” he said, saying that South Africa and Botswana — where the new variant was detected in southern Africa — should be praised and not “penalized” for their work. That was an allusion to travel restrictions announced by many countries on air travel to and from the region. Read More
US Supports Creation of Global Pandemic Treaty
VOA News: Amid growing concerns over the new omicron COVID-19 variant, the Biden administration is supporting efforts by the World Health Organization to establish a new international agreement on future pandemic preparedness and response.
“The United States is committed to working with member states to take forward the recent recommendations of the working group on preparedness and response. That includes developing a new WHO convention agreement or other international instrument and making agreements to improve the effectiveness and agility of international health regulations,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday to VOA aboard Air Force One.
The U.S. had initially opposed the inclusion of language that would have made the so-called pandemic treaty — proposed by about two dozen world leaders in March — legally binding. But on Sunday, the administration supported a draft resolution that is being negotiated at a three-day virtual special session of the WHO governing body, the World Health Assembly, beginning Monday.
The pandemic treaty is expected to be ready in May 2024. Some public health experts are pessimistic of the outcome.
“The prognosis is still quite poor that we’re going to get to a legally binding treaty that the U.S. and every other country of substance in the world accepts in the coming two or even three years,” Krishna Udayakumar, founding director of the Duke Global Health Innovation Center at Duke University, told VOA. “Anything that comes out of this process is very unlikely to make any change to our current environment and the current pandemic response.” Read More
