At Himitsu Ministries, our mission is to help you cultivate a deeper understanding of God’s Word primarily through bible prophecy and apologetics.
An overview of the tribulation period. I start the episode by defining the tribulation and the other names its known by: Daniel’s 70th Week, Jacob’s Trouble, and the Day of the Lord. Then I address questions such as “What is the tribulation?” “What is the abomination of desolation?” and “What is the purpose of the tribulation?” to help us better understand what Scripture says about this time.
Using Daniel 9:24-27, I talk about the 70-week prophecy and why we say that the tribulation is 7 years long. This episode will give you a good overview of the tribulation.

- Daniel 9:27: “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.”

Article Quotations
- What is the day of the Lord? – GotQuestions: “The Old Testament passages dealing with the day of the Lord often convey a sense of imminence, nearness, and expectation (Isaiah 13:6, Ezekiel 30:3, Joel 3:14)โฆThis is because the Old Testament passages referring to the day of the Lord often speak of both a near and a far fulfillment, as does much of Old Testament prophecy. Some Old Testament passages that refer to the day of the Lord describe historical judgments that have already been fulfilled in some sense…” 1
Commentary Quotations
- Online Bible Study Notes – Daniel, Dr. Thomas L. Constable: “The Hebrew word translated ‘weeks’ (shabu’im) literally means ‘units of seven.’ It can refer to seven days (Gen. 29:27-28) or seven years, as verses 26 and 27 will show. The Jews observed a seven-year celebration (the sabbatical year), as well as a seven-day celebration (the Sabbath). Most scholars believe that this word (‘weeks,’ ‘sevens,’ ‘units of seven’) here represents seven-year periods.” 2
- Online Bible Study Notes – Daniel, Dr. Thomas L. Constable: “Daniel had been thinking of God’s program for Israel in terms of years. He had read Jeremiah’s prophecy that the exile would last 70 years (vv. 1-2). It would have been normal then for him to interpret these sevens as years. Furthermore, the fulfillment of the first 69 sevens shows that these “sevens” are years. In addition, the last half of the seventieth seven is described elsewhere as consisting of three and one-half years, or 42 months, or 1,260 days.” 3
- Sir Isaac Newton, Chap. 10. Of the Prophecy of the Seventy Weeks – Blue Letter Bible: “Here, by putting a week for seven years, are reckoned 490 years from the time that the dispersed Jews should be re-incorporated into [f] a people and a holy city, until the death and resurrection of Christโฆ” 4
- Chuck Smith, Verse by Verse Study on Daniel 9-10 – Blue Letter Bible: “Notice there are seventy seven-year cycles that are determined upon the nation Israel, thy people and upon the city of Jerusalem. And so this is a prophecy that relates to God’s dealing with the nation of Israel. It will be accomplished in seventy seven-year cycles.” 5

The Gospel
Weโve all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23). Because God is Holy he must judge sin. The penalty of this sin is death and ultimately the Lake of fire (Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:11-15). Thereโs nothing we can do to save ourselves (Isaiah 64:6).
But God, in his love has provided a way to escape his wrath through Christ (John 3:16-18, John 14:6). Jesus paid for our sin penalty by taking Godโs wrath in our stead on the cross (Romans 5:8). He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again 3 days later (1 Corinthians 15:1-5).
You can accept this free gift of salvation by believing in Christ (Acts 16:30-31, Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9). Make sure youโve made the right decision about Jesus today (2 Corinthians 6:2)! It will be the most important decision of your life, for eternal life.
