In July 2018, Israel had several small earthquakes that raised an alarm for a possible “big one” and brought to question the preparedness of Israel for this event. 2 articles made an estimate as to the damage and loss that may come from a large earthquake.
The Times of Israel wrote,
“Col. Itzik Bar from the IDF’s Home Front Command, put expected casualties from a major quake at 7,000 dead and 200,000 homeless.” (After tremors, experts warn a huge quake is the greatest threat facing Israel)
Similarly, The Jerusalem Post wrote,
“The State Comptroller’s Office stated that according to information received by the government, the situation it needs to prepare for could result in an estimated 7,000 people killed, another 8,600 seriously injured, 37,000 lightly injured, 9,500 trapped in rubble and 170,000 left homeless.” (Israel is not ready for a major earthquake)
For those who are already familiar with my blog and have read some of my previous posts, you may remember that I touched on this in my series examining prophecy with my study on the 2 witnesses. This time however, I wanted to make a shorter post specifically about this earthquake because I believe this is very important. It’s one of the many indicators we’re getting of the times we’re living in. Revelation 11:13 is about a future earthquake that will happen in Israel (specifically Jerusalem) during the tribulation and will kill 7,000 people, “In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven”.
For those who are more skeptical that what’s written in Revelation 11:13 is the same thing as what the 2 news articles reported on, I recommend you go to my article Examining Prophecy: The 2 Witnesses as I examine the 1st century context in which Revelation was written in, the location mentioned in the prophecy as well as specific events leading to the earthquake. I break all of it down to make a case as to why this prophecy is alluding to our time period.
The main question I want to leave you with is, is this just a big coincidence that what was written almost 2,000 years ago, that talks about an earthquake that will occur in Israel and kill exactly 7,000 people is seemingly confirmed to be possible in the near future by news sources? What are the odds that an author of an ancient text that claims to get his “revelations” from a divine source wrote about a number of people that will be killed in some future terrible earthquake and it’s now in our current day that this is mentioned? Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe Israel just gets these types of earthquakes every other year.
What was even more amazing to me is that both sources have varying numbers in terms of how many people may be homeless from this disaster but they both use 7,000 for those who may be killed, just as stated in Revelation 11:13. In my opinion, this is confirmation of what has been written almost 2,000 years ago. It’s confirmation that the tribulation is right around the corner and even closer – the rapture of the church.
These are amazing times we’re living in as we see bible prophecy unfolding right before our eyes and the world stage being set up for the fulfillment of many prophecies.
